Diving into a Unusual Steam Demo: Guiding a Poop on a Quest to Find the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and gamers have encountered numerous engaging creations from small studios. But, one is particularly notable for its quirky concept. Called Unko Technica, this classic-feel jumping adventure lets you play a protagonist that is actually a turd trying to make its way to a toilet. In case you're wondering, "Unko" translates to "poop."
The gameplay is easy to grasp: press a jump control. Throughout numerous challenges, encounter tough enemies and unlock a market to purchase outfits for your fecal avatar.
Plan your actions with caution, as a error requires starting over. Jump on bubbles to launch the poop higher, cross fragile surfaces, and touch switches to unlock secret routes. Gather currency to purchase challenging game content in which the action intensifies.
Graphically, the game shows off neon environments and a killer soundtrack. The simple art featuring shifting abstract forms evokes memories of players of old favorites like Earthbound.
Even though hard to name other games where you play as a dung character, video games have long included scatological themes. For instance, in Death Stranding, players craft explosives from character excrement. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use feces as plant food. And of course, such content is present extensively in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Regardless of its humorous premise, Unko Technica has already earned significant accolades, like being named best at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. This trial version is available now on Steam, with the complete version set to arrive on Steam in the fall.
