A 14-year-old youth was found dead just days after being wrongly accused of stealing the cremated remains of a deceased infant during a break-in, an inquest has learned.

Heartbreaking Discovery

The young boy's parents discovered his remains in his bedroom at his Connah's Quay residence on 19 November 2021.

Untrue Accusations Start

The inquest learned how his mother received a message on 8 November 2021 via social media, from a individual asking if Kai was her offspring. The message added: "Inform him thanks for burgling my flat."

In a statement read to the proceedings, the mother said the woman had been in the media, claiming her baby's remains had been taken in a burglary - a claim which was false.

Law Enforcement Investigation

An investigation report from authorities later determined the supposed burglary victim had "provided false information" and "it now appears that said items was never taken in the beginning".

News coverage about the alleged taken remains attracted online responses, and although the teenager was not identified in the messages, his mother said individuals "understood it was him".

The "online posts were extremely distressing", she stated.

Mental Health Effect

She added that Kai had been identified with moderate attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that disorder, other individuals' opinions really mattered to him.

"This must have affected him severely," she commented, "especially when this was not true".

The teenager was arrested at home, but no evidence was found. He was transported to a police station and later released under investigation.

Police said they would be in touch, the inquest learned, but had failed to contacted the relatives by the time of his death.

Isolation and Worry

His mother said Kai "became isolated" after the arrest and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the police", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could seem like days".

When she spoke to him about the supposed incident, she said her son told her he had entered the house because the woman who resided there had said he could use the toilet anytime he needed, but refuted taking anything.

Digital Harassment

In a joint statement between her and her spouse, Mrs Lloyd said her son was being harassed digitally after the accusations.

The inquest learned that one 19-year-old encouraged the teenager to kill himself.

She had no worries on the evening before he passed away, explaining how she had listened to him "chuckling and joking".

She portrayed him as a "caring, affectionate" boy, and said her "relatives is totally devastated".

He had been "obviously concealing his worries", she said, noting that he could not stand to have anyone "have negative thoughts of him".

School Reaction

The hearing received testimony from school personnel at the local High School.

On 8 November, she "overheard some students discussing that the student had been arrested and that was the first I heard".

"He told me... he'd was innocent," she continued.

After the discussion, the staff member said she called Kai's parents' landline and left a voicemail saying she had communicated to Kai about the allegations.

The proceedings learned his parents said they did not receive that message.

Formal Finding

Lead investigator informed the hearing he would wait for reports regarding what improvements had been made to handling suspects with ADHD, before determining whether he should make a avoidance of subsequent fatalities report.

Providing a descriptive conclusion, he stated: "Approximately 8 November 2021, unsubstantiated allegations were made against the teenager, a 14-year-old individual.

"Likely falsehoods were afterwards exaggerated and amplified through the medium of online networks.

"During November 11th, he was interviewed by the police and following his interview he was released whilst inquiries proceeded."

The official concluded: "Exists no evidence that the actions or omissions of any agency led to or added to his passing and although it was the outcome of a personal action it is not possible to determine his purpose."
